Successful completion of the training programme will provide candidates with the essential knowledge and skills to be able to recognise when someone has suffered cardiac arrest and to respond to the emergency quickly, calmly and confidently.
Who needs this qualification?
The CIEH Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator is suitable for all employees in a workplace where an AED is present for public use, whether or not they have previously undertaken first-aid training.
Why is this training important?
The delay from someone collapsing following cardiac arrest to receiving a shock from an AED is the single most important factor in determining how likely the casualty is to survive, and having the skills and confidence to use such a device where it is available can save lives.
On successful completion of the qualification, the learner will:
• be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
• be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
• know how to safely use an automated external defibrillator
• be able to safely use an automated external defibrillator.
