CIEH Level 1 Award in Food Safety Awareness in Catering

This qualification has been developed to raise awareness of key food safety issues and to provide employees with an introduction to food hygiene. The CIEH Level 1 Award in Food Safety Awareness in Catering will benefit anyone working in a situation where there is food.

The training programme focuses on the information that employees need to know before they start work in a food environment or as part of induction.

Who needs this qualification?

  New employees with minimal or no prior food safety knowledge
  Employees working in a catering environment with low-risk or wrapped foods
  Front-of-house employees such as waiting or checkout staff

Why is this training important?

Food business operators must ensure employees are supervised, instructed and trained in food hygiene matters in order to guarantee safe food to consumers.

Learning outcomes

The learner will understand:

  The importance of keeping him/herself clean and hygienic when handling food
  The importance of keeping food free from contamination
